Ashley High School has an active and effective School Council, which meets weekly in our purpose - built School Council Chamber. The School Council, which has previously been recognised with a number of awards, is made up of a student representative from each class of the school. Representatives are elected via nominations and a secret ballot each September. It is the duty of class representatives to bring the ideas, opinions and agenda items from their class members to School Council. Minutes of each council meeting are shared with staff and pupils to keep all students informed of the School Council activities. The link teacher for School Council is the Deputy Head Teacher.
Each year School Council members invite the new Mayor of Halton and consort to visit the school. Members visit Runcorn Town Hall and find out how local government works. They travel to London annually to visit the Houses of Parliament and meet with local MP, Derek Twigg. After a tour of the House of Commons, they hold their annual General Meeting together.
